It’s around 11:30pm on a beautiful August night. The windows are open to give the house a nice fresh breeze (that’s my excuse, the real reason is because the house is beyond hot) and all I can think about is baking. I’ve come to the realization that I never ended up talking about my failed attempt at peach muffins. I followed the recipe ingredient for ingredient, word for word and they turned out weighing 3 pounds each and tasting like inkjet printer ink. Before you ask, yes, I have tasted printer ink. Yes, it does taste gross. Very, very gross. No, it was not intentional. I can be kind of a walking disaster and let’s just say accidents happen and some ended up on my hand then yeah.. Just gross. Don’t try it, folks.
Oh yeah, muffins. So, the peach muffins I tried turned out to be horrible and disgusting and almost ruined peaches for me. That’s a lie, no it didn’t. I love peaches.
Anyways, I’m getting distracting by my old peach muffin story and can’t seem to get to the darn point. THE POINT IS that all I can think about is baking and have realized that I’ve tried plenty of vanilla, chocolate, banana, lemon, orange, so and so forth flavoured muffins and cupcakes but have yet to master anything to do with peaches. This also has to do with the fact that when I started this little “diary” peaches were not in season and I figured I’d try stuff with the real stuff, real fruit and not canned goods (no offense to canned goods, pumpkin pie out of a can is pretty tasty).
I decided I’d look for recipes in the peach muffin and/or cupcake category. I wanted to try something semi-easy so that I wouldn’t fail horribly, again, and something I could change later on to add different things. The search was on!
Have you any idea how hard it is to find a recipe online that doesn’t involve “yellow cake in a box” or “white cake in a box” or flipping “cake in a box”?! I mean, come on, seriously!! I’m no pro, that’s for damn sure but making a basic cupcake or muffin batter isn’t that hard. Or is it? I mean, I’ve failed here and there, that’s for sure. I take pride in the fact that I haven’t used an “add egg, water and oil to dry mix in package” boxed good as the basis of any of my recipes. I don’t mean to be rude, typing this out, but I just find that is the laziman’s way out (no offense intended whatsoever, to each their own).
After a little while on Google, I decided to go for the “prettier” search…Pinterest here I came!
Even Pinterest upset me for a little while, until I found a couple of really gorgeous pictures, clicked and found FULL peach cupcake and muffin recipes. You should have seen how excited I got! So, my plan for tomorrow, or later on today, is to attempt one of the recipes. As well as attempt my whole wheat bread one more time and possibly tell you about my little DIY.
