Quick Tip

Today’s quick tip is one that has become a must have for me. I’ve been having a hard time finding a good eye makeup remover. Anything I’ve tried has either not worked very well, or has irritated my eyes even though it specifically says that it won’t irritate eyes. So I set out to create my own.

The combination I have come up with uses coconut oil, sweet almond oil, and a little vitamin E. The nice thing about using this is that you do not have to wash it off completely once you are done. The oil can stay on the area around your eyes and will moisturize the skin. The skin around your eyes is delicate, and this is the perfect blend for it. I have actually used this formula on my whole face. It sounds like it wouldn’t work, but it does! The good oils fight the bad oils and provide your skin with nourishment that it may be lacking. I’ve seen a huge improvement in my skin since starting to use this. It has even cleared up breakouts.
Here is the recipe!

1 part coconut oil to 2 parts almond oil and a few drops of liquid vitamin E.
I usually use a teaspoon as my measuring method, a little bit will go a long way. The vitamin E is used for the obvious benefits, but also as a natural preservative to prolong the life of the mixture.

(You can substitute and use olive oil, apricot oil, grape seed oil, etc if you do not have almond oil. Different oils can have a different impact on different skin types as well. If one oil doesn’t seem to work, swap out for a different oil.)

Melt the coconut oil either in the microwave or by double boiling it. You want to heat it only enough to melt it. Do not let it boil. Add in the almond oil (or substitute) and vitamin E. Stir and store in a sealed container.

Once you are ready to use it, grab a washcloth or small towel. Get it wet with warm water and wring out excess water. Using your fingers, rub a small amount of the oil onto closed eyes. Massage on lids gently. Then use the warm wet cloth to wipe it off. All makeup should come off easily! If the makeup was applied heavily, I suggest leaving the oil on closed eyes for 30 seconds to a minute and then wiping off.

When I use the oil for my whole face, I rub it on and then lay the warm wet cloth over my face for a minute and then use the cloth to wipe all of it off. No need for rinsing and no need to apply lotion afterwards!

    • If you make it in smaller amounts, or just make it every time you need to use it, you don’t need to add the vitamin E. The vitamin E is used to help store it and keep it fresh.
